Charleston Edu Funding is an independent guide for families in Kanawha, Putnam, Boone, Lincoln and Clay counties who want to understand what the Hope Scholarship pays for and which schools and programs it can reach.
We are not the Hope Scholarship Board, the State Treasurer's Office or a school. We read the Board's handbooks and FAQ, the state's nonpublic school list, the diocesan school list and federal school records, and we write the guides here from those sources.
Where the school data comes from
Federal records. Enrollment, teachers, grades and religious orientation come from the U.S. Department of Education's Private School Survey (2023-24, with 2021-22 for schools that skipped the latest round). 13 schools in our directory have a federal record.
State and program lists. We matched the Hope Scholarship Board's directory (updated Aug 10, 2026) and the West Virginia Department of Education's nonpublic school list (updated Nov 18, 2025) to federal records in Oct 2026. 8 schools, mostly microschools, appear only on the Hope list, so we show their name and city only.
Associations. ACSI memberships come from ACSI's public directory, and Catholic schools from the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston's own list. A directory listing is not always accreditation, so ask the school.
Which schools get a page. A school gets its own page when federal records and the lists give enough to say something useful. All 21 schools appear in the directory tables.
Hope figures. Amounts, windows, deposit dates and allowed expenses come from the Hope Scholarship Board's FAQ and the Parent Handbook dated June 25, 2026.
Local figures come from the West Virginia Department of Education's 2025-26 headcount, the Hope Scholarship Board's directory and handbooks, and the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston's school list. Neither public source reports tuition.
Missing a school, or see a Hope status that has changed? Tell us and we will check it against the Board's directory.
